Magical Moments of Photography

Any photographers out there will be able to relate to me when I talk about those magical moments of our passion, when we pick up the camera, frame our subject, hit that shutter, and the resulting image makes you giddy with pure extatic joy and excitment. Where your feet do that happy little jig and people around you think about calling the nearest psych ward. As Joe McNally puts it, "The Moment it Clicks".

I had one of those last night, where I was simply glad to be a photographer, have that passion for simply capturing whats going on around me. The Sunday Mail gave me a phone call, the usual, do you think you could shoot for us in a couple of hours, we need photos of people showing off their smiles and styles.

The last shoot of the evening was for a Fringe show, My Sweet Specter (5*, brilliant production), and I was invited around to the after party for the production team, which turned out to be a hoot. We assembled at the Boho pub in Adelaide, and my eyes literally hopped out of my head seeing all these great angles for portraits. The pub is styled to match a travelling circus from what I saw, very cool.

After re-designing their furniture, and setting up speed lights to crosslight the scene, I called for the crew to pile into my set. After a formal shot, I uttered two magical words for when you are shooting a bunch of talented actors late at night in a pub; GO WILD!

This is the result:

I love working with actors, their out there attitude, not holding back, and heads full of excellent poses for the camera is what makes it such a joy.

What a night,

Brooke

Fluro Snakes

Just had the awesome opportunity to photograph this amazing creature, an Albino Darwin Carpet Python:

Pretty simple shot, taken with a Nikkor 105mm Macro f/2.8 @ f/8, 1/250th

Made up an Aperture Preset for this effect, as well as a desaturated version, which looks pretty cool as well, named it Kiwi Punch!

Download those here: kiwipunch.zip

Aperture FTP Export Plugin

Just discovered this nifty little plugin for Aperture, allowing you to send photos straight from your library to an FTP destination. Very useful for my stock photography, though I am sure there are many more uses.
